Even if you are only moving across town, you may dread the whole process of packing up and moving everything in your home, especially every item of clothing. For your short distance move, use the tips below to more easily transport your clothing.
Use Garbage Bags For Clothes
Instead of using up all of your boxes to pack up the clothes in your drawers, use garbage bags instead. Since the items are not breakable, you do not have to worry about damaging your shirts, jeans, or dress slacks.
To save time, do not worry about organizing the clothing by type. However, if you do have some time, you can have one bag each for jeans and shirts. When you are finished filling the bags, label them with a piece of masking tape.
Keep Clothes On Hangers
If you have clothes already on hangers, there is no need to take each item off and pack it. Since you are moving such a short distance, leave your clothes on the hangers. When you are ready to move, just lay them down in the back seat or trunk of your car. When you arrive at your new home, simply take them inside and hang them up in the closets.
Stuff Your Socks In Boxes For Use As Padding
To move your socks or other small items, use them to pad your boxes of fragile items, such as dishes, glassware, or collectibles. Not only does this help you save money on packing supplies, but it also lets you fill in all of the empty spaces of the boxes and easily move your smaller clothing items.
For example, when using socks to pad your glasses, place a glass in one sock with the bottom end down. Once you have done this, stuff the top excess fabric of the sock inside the glass. This helps keep the glass from breaking, as well as creates a cushion around it so you can place your glasses next to each other in the same box. For collectibles, place the item inside the sock, then roll the top end around the collectible to give it several layers of padding.
Following the above tips can make it easier for you to move the contents of your closets and drawers. For ideas on how to move your other items and furniture across town, you may want to discuss your options with a local mover or click for more info.
